Dec 14, 2015· Anybody have an opinion on which model Dumore tool post grinder would be appropriate for a South Bend 9A lathe? I have been thinking about buying one, but I don''t want to spend the money and find I''ve oversized it. I just want to be able to polish shafts, inside bores, some homemade morse tapers and centers, etc.

Apr 18, 2018· Like many tools, may only use it once a year. But having that tool is a lifesaver that day of the year even though I may not use it for the next 12 months. Stay tuned. I just purchased a new old lathe. The above mentioned South Bend 9" lathe is 31/2'' model C built in 1939 and I just purchased a War Production 41/2'' Model A 9" lathe.
This little jig is not just for the South Bend Lathe owner! Place your cutter bit in the appropriate sized tool holder, rotate the center tool holder to achieve the desired side / back / top rake angle, lock set screw and grind on your grinder or belt / disc sander!
Mar 24, 2008· Here is what I use. It is a die grinder mounted in an old die grinder holder held by an old Atlas Lathe milling attachment adaptied to wouk on a South Bend Lathe. I also made a ltool holder that will hold a Fordoem tool in a rocker tool post. A Dumore tool post grinder will cost you a few hundred dollars on Ebay or much more new.

You have to have the proper way to load the jaws during grinding, but you end up with improved accuracy. Old newspaper is an ideal way cover while grinding.
